Ours is an uncertain time, where everything is questioned... that is, everything except that which needs to be. Hypocrisy, a character attribute we all instinctively find revolting, is everywhere. In times past, religious people were the only ones unwillingly pegged with this badge of disgrace, but the new and unimproved scarlet letter “H” applies to many more. Do many political activists disguise their true intents and purposes and toss up misleading smoke-screens? Certainly. Why are they so unwilling to admit simple truths so they can move forward? Do they expect failure? What then can we say to the modernist who personally discounts the philosopher instead of returning focus on the human problems at hand? It is far too easy to be dismissive here. Philosophical inquiry is far more than a simple battle of the wills and testing of temperaments; it is an engagement that requires vigor. If we can restrain our biases and clear our heads, we can get a fresh start on our journey in life together. Why together? Because we are. Yes, you are your brother's keeper.
